Where our firewood comes from

It's a fair question to ask any firewood seller โ€” and one a lot of them dodge. Here's a straight answer about where our Red Gum comes from, and how you can check that what you're buying is the real thing.

Sourced from Victorian farms โ€” not native forests

Our Red Gum is sustainably sourced from local Victorian farmers. It comes off farmland here in Victoria, not from native forests โ€” and we think that matters. As Victoria moves away from native-forest timber, responsibly sourced firewood from farmland is the sensible choice: it doesn't come at the cost of native forest, and it keeps the supply chain local and accountable.

Because we buy from Victorian farmers, we can tell you where each load originates โ€” and we're happy to. That's the simplest test of an honest firewood seller: if they can't or won't tell you where the wood is from, it's worth asking why.

Three questions worth asking any firewood seller

Firewood is an easy purchase to get short-changed on. Before you buy from anyone โ€” us included โ€” these three questions sort the genuine sellers from the rest.

๐Ÿ“

1. Where is the wood from?

Ours is farm-sourced Red Gum from Victoria โ€” not native forest. A seller who can name their source has nothing to hide; a vague answer usually means the wood is bought in from wherever is cheapest that week.

2. Is it a registered business with an invoice?

We're a GST-registered business โ€” ABN 89 902 804 079 โ€” so you can get a proper tax invoice for your order, not a cash-in-hand mystery with no comeback if the load is short. Ask any seller for one; a legitimate business provides it without hesitation.

3. Is it a full, stacked cubic metre?

Under Australian measurement law a cubic metre of firewood is measured neatly stacked, not tipped in a loose heap. We stack yours on delivery, so you can see and measure exactly what arrived.

A real business, with a real invoice

Red Firewood trades under ABN 89 902 804 079 and is GST-registered, so you can get a proper tax invoice showing exactly what you paid for. It sounds basic, but a surprising amount of firewood changes hands with no receipt and no accountability โ€” so if the wood turns up short, wet or green, there's nothing to point back to. We'd rather do it properly.

Why it's $499 โ€” and still done right

A fair worry is that cheaper firewood must be dodgy firewood. Our $499 per cubic metre includes delivery and on-site stacking, sold by the legally-measured stacked cubic metre. It isn't a discount that hides a short or unseasoned load โ€” it's a fair price for premium seasoned Red Gum, delivered and put away properly. If you want the full detail on how firewood should be measured and why a stacked metre beats a "loose" one, we explain it in the cubic metre guide, and there's more on the wood itself in our Red Gum firewood guide.

The short version: farm-sourced Victorian Red Gum, from a registered business, sold by the stacked cubic metre, delivered and stacked. If you'd like to know more about where a particular load came from, just ask when you order.
