The Red Firewood difference

Firewood, delivered and stacked across Melbourne

Most Melbourne firewood suppliers tip the load in your driveway and drive off. We deliver your Red Gum and stack it neatly wherever you want it — included in the price, at no extra charge.

We stay and stack it. They dump and leave.

Ordering firewood usually means a truck backing up, tipping a heap of wood across your driveway, and driving off — leaving you to barrow and stack it all yourself, often in the cold and often at night. The bigger Melbourne suppliers say so plainly on their own websites: their drivers do not stack the wood; it is tipped where you point.

We do the opposite. When we deliver, we stack the wood neatly in the spot you choose — in your woodshed, along a fence line, beside the house, under the deck. It is part of the $499 per cubic metre, not an add-on and not an upsell. You get seasoned Red Gum, in the right place, ready to burn.

Stacking is also how you know you got a full metre

There's a reason stacking matters beyond convenience. Under Australian trade-measurement law, firewood sold by the cubic metre must be measured neatly stacked, with as few gaps as possible — a cubic metre is a stacked measure, not a loose heap tipped off a truck. A dumped or "loose" load holds noticeably less actual wood than the same volume stacked, because of the air gaps between randomly-thrown pieces.

So when we stack your delivery at your place, you can see and measure exactly what arrived. The service that saves you the work also happens to be the way the law says a cubic metre should be measured in the first place.

Want the detail? We explain what a cubic metre of firewood actually is, and why a stacked metre beats a "loose" one, on our what is a cubic metre of firewood page.

Stacked properly, in the right place

Where and how firewood is stacked genuinely affects how well it keeps and how safe it is. When we place your wood, we stack it the way it should be stored:

If you're not sure where your wood should go, just ask when we arrive — placing it well is part of the job.
